'What Works?' Welcome from Conference Chair Welcome to the website of the Second
National Conference of Enabling Educators, entitled “Enabling Education: What
Works?” hosted by the English Language and Foundation Studies Centre of The In 2007 we plan to mount the Second Enabling Educators conference, which will provide further opportunities promote research into enabling education and develop links between researchers and practitioners in this field. In the 2007 conference, we are delighted to have student involvement in the program – both in a formal and informal way. The Conference will commence with a Symposium where our student participants and keynote speakers will reflect on the experience of enabling education from their different perspectives. The Symposium will provide an exciting start to our conference, and will also be a reminder of what enabling education is all about – the experiences of its students and their expanded opportunities. The Conference has already attracted keynote speakers of international standing in higher education and equity research from diverse fields within the broad area of enabling education. They include Professor Eleanor Ramsay, Hawke Institute, University of South Australia, Dr Terry Jeves, Academic Director, The Northern Consortium UK, Dr Helen Anderson, Director Academic, Manukau Institute of Technology, The University of Auckland, Associate Professor William Oates, Director, Indigenous Learning, Spirituality & Research Centre, Nulloo Yumbah, Central Queensland University and Professor John Stevenson, Chair of Post-compulsory Education and Training, Griffith University. Collectively, their fields of interest cover indigenous enabling/bridging education, equity, adult education, International Foundation and offshore delivery, and establishing associations and consortia of enabling/bridging educators and institutions. One of our primary aims in hosting the
“Enabling Education: What Works?” Conference is to facilitate dialogue and
to stimulate research in this important area of tertiary educational activity.
